How to Link History Table in HP Asset Manager

If you use HP Asset Manager software (AM), at some point you may be asked to query historical records of an asset. As long as the field is configured to keep history, all changes are kept in the amHistory table along with the old and new values of the field, modified date, what table is affected, etc.

Hewlett-Packard Asset Manager amPortfolio Configure field - Keep history

The problem is amHistory table by itself is hardly useful without being linked to other tables where we usually start our search (i.e., machine’s serial number, person’s name, etc.). amHistory is linked to a table whenever Keep history: option is turned on on any field of that particular table. The trick is to understand how amHistory is linked to different tables within AM.

Since amHistory can be linked to any tables, it uses one field, LHISTOBJID to populate main Id from the linked tables. So anytime we want to link amHistory to a table such as amPortfolio for example, then need to get the main Id of amPortfolio’s table (i.e., LPORTFOLIOITEMID) and link it with LHISTOBJID. Similarly, if we want to join amHistory with amAsset table, we should use LASTID as the key to match to LHISTOBJID.

These two SQL examples below should be self-explanatory:

Joined with amPortfolio Table

SELECT * FROM amPortfolio p
INNER JOIN amHistory h
ON p.LPortfolioItemId = h.LHistObjId
WHERE p.AssetTag = 'SN1234';

Joined with amAsset Table

SELECT * FROM amAsset a
INNER JOIN amHistory h
ON a.LAstId = h.LHistObjId
WHERE a.AssetTag = 'SN1234';

Hope it helps.

How to Setup WordPress on iPad

Similar to the previous post on How to Setup WordPress on iPhone, here are the steps to setup WordPress client on an iPad:

  1. Go to App Store and search for WordPress by Automattic. Once you find it, just tap on the INSTALL button.

  2. Once installed, open the app and make the selection that’s applicable to you. The options are pretty straight forward. If you have a blog either self-hosted or with WordPress.com, you just need to tap on the corresponding Blog option. Or if you don’t have one, you can open a new account with WordPress.com. As an example for this site, it is a self-hosted blog, so the first option, + Add Self-Hosted Blog should be selected.

  3. Enter your blog URL, username and password on the Add Blog screen. Turn on Geotagging as necessary.

  4. Tap Save button on the upper right-hand corner and all your postings will be listed on the next screen.

In the same way to the setup on iPhone, if you have multiple blogs, you can add more blogs by going to Settings, tap on Add a Blog, and repeat the whole process above.

How to Move Sticky Notes to Windows 8

Sticky Notes on Windows 7Sticky Notes is one of my favorite Windows 7 features that I use for my daily reminder.

It’s good that Microsoft still put Sticky Notes in Windows 8 although they are only accessible from the Desktop mode. So this post is just to show how to migrate your Sticky Notes to a new system (regardless it’s Windows 7 or 8).

The way to do this is very simple, you can either copy your sticky notes file from your old system before hand and restore it later or just connect your old drive and do a file copy. The only thing you need to know is the location of the Sticky Notes file (StickyNotes.snt).

Just open your File Explorer (“Windows logo key”+E) and type:

"%AppData%\Microsoft\Sticky Notes"

Copy the StickyNotes.snt file to a safe place.

The other way is just to attach your old main drive (if you didn’t overwrite it with a new OS) and copy the StickyNotes.snt file from the old location to your new main drive.

The fastest way to do it is just by having two File Explorer opened with one pointing to the source (i.e., O: / old drive) and the other the destination (i.e., C: / new drive).

Sticky Notes on Windows 8 or Windows 10

"O:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Sticky Notes"

to:

"C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Sticky Notes"

That’s it. After all this, you might have to call the Sticky Notes manually or restart the system to see them back on your desktop.

What if you’ve never used Sticky Notes before?

Search Sticky Notes on Windows 8 The program can be easily launched from the Windows Charms. On Windows 8.1 screen, hover your mouse to either the top or bottom right corner and click Search. Start typing “Sticky Notes” (without quotes) and you’ll see the program pops out underneath the box. Then you can either choose Pin to Start or Pin to Taskbar for easy access.

Right-click on the Taskbar, select Toolbars, then New toolbar…

Add Quick Launch in Windows 8 - New toolbar...

Type in:

"%AppData%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch"

Add Quick Launch in Windows 8 - New Toolbar Choose a folder

Click Select Folder button, and you’re done.
